Microsoft enters tablet war

Microsoft introduces its most ambitious product of recent years in the form of a new line of PCs for Windows.

Los Angeles. Microsoft yesterday unveiled its tablet offering called Surface. It has a 10.6 inch ClearType HD Display. The product is conceived, designed and engineered entirely by Microsoft employees.

In direct competition to Apple's best selling iPad, Surface offers a full-sized USB port. Something lacking in all three generations of iPad.

An integrated kickstand removes the need of an extra cover, and has no extra weight or thickness.

The best thing about the device is the Touch Cover. Touch Cover clicks into Surface via a built-in magnetic connector and works as a protective cover. It doubles up as a keyboard.

Two models of Surface will be available: one running an ARM processor featuring Windows RT (weighing 676 grams with an option of 32 GB or 64 GB), and one with a third-generation Intel Core processor featuring Windows 8 Pro (weighing 903 grams with an option of 64 GB and 128 GB). Surface for Windows RT will release with the general availability of Windows 8, and the Windows 8 Pro model will be available about 90 days later.
