43rd International Film Festival of India commences today

Ten day festival to showcase the best of Indian and World Cinema.

Goa. The 43rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) commences today at Goa. The festival will be held from the 20th to 30th November, 2012.

The ten day extravaganza will have sections like Indian Panorama which includes feature and non-feature cinema selections, Indian retrospectives, student films and more. There will also be special segments such as festival kaleidoscope, cinema of the world, foreign retrospectives, homage, country focus, sketches on screen (animation & 3D cinema). The festival involves a total screening of more than two hundred movies over the ten day duration. It opens with Oscar winner Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’ and will screen Mira Nair’s ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ as the closing movie.

This year the IFFI Life Time Achievement Award is to be conferred on Polish film director, Krzystof Zanussi.

Celebrating the 100 years of Indian cinema, IFFI will showcase a special section – ‘Centenary Celebrations’, which will screen a selection of the best movies from Indian cinema's 100 year history.

Popular jury awards recognizing the best of cinematic creativity on display at the festival would also be presented.

Started in 1952, IFFI has evolved into a major forum for cinema from across the world.
