Tokyo SkytreeTokyo Skytree, the world's tallest tower, opens to public.

Tokyo. A new tower in Japan has joined the list of most famous buildings in the world. Designed in an original white colour, the Skytree stands at 634m, making it the tallest tower in the world currently. The launch of the Skytree project dates back to December, 2003.

The odd figure of 634 was specially chosen. The sound of the figure when in old Japanese numbers is "mu-sa-shi", which reminds Japanese people of Musashi Province of the past, that used to cover a large area, including Tokyo. In fact, the very area where the tower stands belonged to Musashi Province in the past.

There tower also houses two observation decks at 350m and 450m above ground.

The major role of Tokyo Skytree is transmission of digital terrestrial broadcasting. It also has a disaster-prevention function that can be used at times of natural disaster.
