India shines at the World Travel Awards

Incredible India wins at the World Travel Awards.


New Delhi. World Travel Awards (WTA) were announced at a glittering Grand Final Gala Ceremony in New Delhi, India, on 12th December 2012. India bagged some important ones.

The Raj Palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan, won the “World’s Leading Best Heritage Hotel Award 2012”. India also bagged the “World’s Leading Destination” award. Incredible India was voted “World’s Leading Tourist Board” in recognition of its part in raising international tourist arrivals.

Etihad Airways was voted “World’s Leading Airline” and “World’s Leading Airline First Class”. Singapore Airlines won “World’s Leading Airline Business Class” and Lufthansa was named “World’s Leading Airline Economy Class”.

Dubai’s Burj al Arab was adjudged “World’s Leading Hotel”, and Atlantis The Palm, Dubai, was recognised as “World’s Leading Landmark Resort”.

Destination winners included the Maldives (“World’s Leading Island Destination”), Mauritius (“World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination”) and Jamaica (“World’s Leading Cruise Destination”).

World Travel Awards was launched in 1993 to acknowledge and recognise excellence in the global travel and tourism industry.

The voting process is online and a year-long communications campaign encourages global participation. Votes are cast by 213,000 travel professionals including travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organisations in more than 160 countries across the globe.
